Busy Weekend

What a busy weekend!!
As I mentioned in the last post, I went to NQA quilt show yesterday to volunteer as a sack sitter in the morning. It was so nice to see some ladies who have been volunteering at the show for years. It was like a school reunion. We talked about UFOs that we have been working on as well as our favorite quilt shops around here and there.
Sack sitting in the morning was so easy. Most of the people started to see the exhibition and some of them were taking quilt classes, so we were just chatting at the table. I was supposed to work for two shift as a sack sitter, so when the first shift was over, I went to the volunteer desk to check out and back in. The lady told me to pick out one of the goodies from the vendors' donation. When I looked around those goodies, I saw one surprising stuff there. It was 36"x24" cutting board!!! So without hesitation, I grabbed it!! (see the pic)

Then the lady also asked me if I could work as a quilt monitor who would walk around the aisles between the exhibitions to check on the people as well as answer their questions and so on. Since I was supposed to wear a pair of white gloves, I was allowed to touch the quilts and flip them over to show the backside of them. It was also a good experience for me. I never thought that we could show the back of the quilts. Some quilters have funny tricks on their quilt like one of them was feather quilted on the backside and the main design was on the front(Grand mother's fan with reproduction fabrics) but only the back side was displayed. So Everytime I flipped it over to show it to the people, they were so surprised and impressed about how cute the idea was.

After I finished the another shift, I went back to the volunteer desk then guess what I picked out this time?? Yes, I was able to get 9 FQ bundles!! FOR FREE!!!! they are resproduction fabrics and perfect for CWDQ project.
So, I will sign up for volunteering next year, of course!! (lol)
I only had a couple hours to look around the exibition and vender booth after my shift, but I found some primitive kits, pattern, and reproduction background FQs.
I had a blast!!!

Here are some quilts I really liked at the show.

Thank you for stopping by and have a nice week!!

Chelsea Boutique

Since I finished the Bird quilt as mentioned in the last post, I have not been in my sewing room. I just don't feel like doing anything, maybe just because being anxious about going back home next week. Even so I managed to make those table centers for a important friend of mine who is leaving for Japan in a month. She is my former boss's wife and has been very nice to me. I had a chance to have a lunch with her recently and we had a very nice precious time together. We both agreed that we should have done that more often as she's been here for over 15 years!!

Hope she will like them to use in her new home.

I made these table centers without batting. I personally like thin cloth laid out on the table. To put the front and back pieces together I tied a few spots with embroidery floss. This was easy finish and I like the outcome. The fabric line is "Chelsea Boutique" by Moda and they are 5 inch charm package. I really like this sophisticated color combo.

I called my mom the other night and was able to talk with my brother too. He asked me to let my daughter know that he would buy her anything she wants when we visit them this time. What about anything for me?????? I could not say that! (lol)
Yes, the count down is starting...

BOF- Mission Completed!

I finished this quilt yesterday!!!

Tomorrow is the last day of school where my daughter goes and she will give this quilt to her favorite teacher as a thank you gift. I even made the label on the back of it writing all of her classmates' name and my name in the small label as well. Hope her teacher will like it and remember another good year with her kids.

Other than this big project, I have not done any sewing for a few days. I will start another project soon though. (I've already had patterns and fabrics to make it)

I am just looking forward to going to NQA Quilt show in a couple of weeks and I am even volunteering as a sack sitter for one day. Woo hoo, more shopping and more goodies to come home with me, but I will try to stick with my budget this time at the show so I can buy more stuff in my home town during my trip. I know it will be hard but be smart!

Birds of a Feather

It's already June?! WOW! What have I done for the last six months??? Time flies too fast...
Speaking of time, almost all schools around where I live will be over and LONG summer vacation will start soon. On the last day of the school year since my little girl started kindergarten, she has been giving her teacher a small gift (mostly my handmade quilt) and of course this year she has already asked me to make something for her teacher.

So I started looking for a simple but nice looking design for the small quilt and it took me almost a month to decide the final design. This is what I've been working on for the gift. It is from "Birds of a Feather" by Blackbird Designs and this is the first quilt ever made from this book. Boy, it's been so hard to choose an appropriate fabric for each mochief as well as the color selection. I kept cutting same patterns with different fabric until I really liked them. I thought the fabric for the flower base looked a littl too loud and busy as a whole first, but when I finished all appliques and put it on the wall and looked at it from the distance, it did not bother me any more.

I will add pieced border around it and make simple quilt lines in it. Hopefully I will finish it by this weekend.

Summer Vacation

You Belong in Summer

Energetic, creative, and very curious about the world...

You're not going to let anything hold you back, especially a cold day.

Whether you're chilling out at the beach or partying all night, you live for the warm weather.

As matter of fact, I will be taking vacation within three weeks and going back home. It's been almost five years since I went to visit my family, so they are so excited about our visit this summer. Although it will be only less than a couple weeks and paying skyrocket airfare, it is still worth it.

While I am in my home town, I will, of course, go shopping to get a lot of goodies for me as well for other quilters out there!! I'm sure I will find some exclusive Japanese quilt books, notions, and fabrics, etc... (mouth watering ~~~) So I am planning to have big goodies give aways on the week of July 7th. I know it's still one month away but some of you will be out of town for vacation as well. So I need to plan this ahead of time...

Basically I will draw five lucky quilters for goodie bags (lol) if you leave comment on June 25.
I might not be able to check on my blog while I'm in my home town but I will check it as soon as I come back here. Wanna goodies from SUSHI land??? (lol)

Just remind you that, of course, I REALLY REALLY appreciate your comment any time!!

Thank you for stopping by and have a happy quilting day!!
